Version 0.1.10 patch notes

0.1.8 and 0.1.9 rolled into one big update

Co-op & Multiplayer

  • Playing with friends now goes through the server. Share your 6-letter code and your friend joins your world. No more copying long codes or IP addresses around.
  • Direct connect is still there for anyone who prefers playing peer to peer.
  • NEW (experimental): a "No port forwarding" option next to Direct connect. It can let friends who live far away join without opening a port on your router. It may not work on every network yet, so please tell me how it goes for you!
  • When joining doesn't work, the game now tells you why in one clear sentence, instead of leaving you staring at "Looking for your friend…" forever.
  • Your friend code is now permanent. Give it out once and it keeps working.
  • Tags: a new way to team up with friends. Tag a friend and you're a team.
  • You can now Fly directly to a friend!
  • In Duos, your partner's Pokémon now get their share of EXP too.
  • Running from a wild co-op battle now works properly.
  • Catching a Pokémon in a Duo is now safe for both players. *hopefully
  • Trade notes now expire, so old trade offers stop hanging around forever.
  • A friend who drops out briefly during a Story Rally gets a little time to come back before the rally moves on.
  • Leaving the city and using its doors now works the way you'd expect.
  • How Tags work: click a friend's icon under the minimap or in the player list to invite them. Once they accept, you fight together as long as you stay about a screen apart. Wander too far and the tag breaks until you're close again. Press the tag on screen to end it.
  • The Join page is now one button and one box. No more guessing between "Relay" and "Peer to Peer".
  • You can host friends who join through the server and friends on Direct connect in the same world, at the same time.
  • Joining can no longer hang on "Joining your friend's world…". The game tries 3 times, then tells you what went wrong. If your versions don't match, it tells you which ones.
  • If your connection drops, the game takes you back to your friend's world by itself. No retyping codes.
  • The game no longer kicks you out of Online about an hour in.
  • Once linked, you can choose singles or doubles again.
  • In a team-up, your Exp. Share works too, not just the host's.
  • Switching Pokémon in a battle with a friend no longer crashes the game.
  • Teaming up against a Gym Leader no longer crashes as the battle loads.
  • Evolving after a battle with a friend no longer crashes the game.
  • In co-op, every trainer now picks their own starter. Before, everyone except the host crashed at the briefcase. Very cooperative.
  • The lake scene after picking your starter now plays for each trainer. The host is no longer left frozen on a black screen.
  • Teaming up into a building with a lift (like the Jubilife TV tower) no longer crashes the game.
  • Your tag no longer turns red every time you change areas.
  • Cheryl can no longer be lost through the rift. If it already happened to you (every battle a tag battle, healed after every fight), your save fixes itself.
  • The Rift Watch works whenever you're signed in, and if it can't take you, it tells you why.
  • WATCH BATTLE tells you why it stopped instead of just dropping you back on the field.
  • The RiftPad no longer gets stuck on "Connecting…", and friends who go offline stop showing a green dot.

Crashes & Saves

  • Saving can no longer freeze the game.
  • Following Pokémon no longer crash the game at map borders.
  • Throwing a ball in a double wild battle now hits the Pokémon you picked. Previously, Mimikyu was basically uncatchable. It was not on purpose, I promise. It's just like that.
  • A save the game can't read no longer locks you out of the whole game. One broken world can't take all the others down with it anymore.
  • Trades and Battle Frontier saves now save safely too.
  • Riding up and down bike slopes no longer crashes the game.
  • Starting a new run right after Barry leaves your room no longer crashes the game.
  • Closing the game no longer crashes it. Yes, it could crash while closing. No, I don't want to talk about it.
  • The Underground's TREASURES list and moving Underground items no longer crash the game.
  • A double battle where one side can't send anything out is now fought as a single instead of crashing.
  • The black "not responding" screen after the TV special at the start is fixed.

Battles

  • Battle sounds are back, including your Pokémon's moves and the other side's cries.
  • Every newer Pokémon now has its own cry.
  • Double battles show each side's Pokémon on the correct side.
  • Opposing trainers use their items properly now. Roark has learned what a Potion is. You're welcome?
  • Pokémon you've already caught are marked in battle.
  • Status conditions have their proper colours.
  • Battles look sharper, and the EXP bar slides smoothly.
  • Hyper Voice, Uproar and Chatter make their sound again.
  • 186 moves from the newer games now have their own animations instead of stand-ins.
  • 16 abilities from the newer games that did absolutely nothing now actually do something.
  • Volt Tackle and Zap Cannon no longer leave black bars on the sides of the screen.
  • The battle Bag shows how many of an item you have left.
  • In a team-up, the "caught" mark shows your own catches, not your partner's.

Gameplay & Quality of Life

  • Resizing game windows works now.
  • Exp. Share can be turned on from the very start, and it has its own key.
  • Tutorials can be skipped.
  • Typing now follows your keyboard's layout.
  • Randomizer worlds can use a seed, so you and your friends can play the exact same randomized world.
  • Level caps now count your own badges.
  • Less grinding: Pokémon catch up on levels faster when they fall behind.
  • Soft reset (Ctrl R) (LB + RB) Old DS combo: Start + Select + L + R still works too.
  • The Classic menus are back, without the freeze or the crash on EXIT. Sprites also stay sharp at any window size.
  • SKIP AHEAD now keeps the catching lesson and its five Poké Balls.
  • Every key and button can be moved now, on the keyboard and on a controller. There are ready-made keyboard layouts (including a Classic JRPG one), and the game names your actual keys, even in the story.
  • Keys no longer stop working or stay held after closing a menu.
  • Separate volume sliders for MUSIC, SOUND EFFECTS and CRIES.
  • Bag sorting: press Y (V on a keyboard) to sort by GAME, A-Z, KIND or NEWEST.
  • A stylist now works in every Pokémon Center. Talk to her to change your trainer's look.
  • Chespin and Fennekin (and their evolutions) have joined the game.
  • Gym badges get dusty over time again. Open your TRAINER CARD and rub them clean with the mouse, like the original.
  • New ACCESSIBILITY settings: hold A to move talks along, less flashing, bigger words, type names on their colours, a foe health percentage, and options for motion sickness and colour vision.
  • Shinies are impossible to miss: a gold star by the name, the sparkle sound and an "It's a shiny…!" line, always on.
  • The MORE POKéMON setting can now be changed in a world you've already started.
  • The Pokédex has working ENTRY, AREA and ABILITY tabs. AREA shows where the added and newer Pokémon live, and Pidgey, Sentret, Zigzagoon and friends finally have their entries.
  • Every fossil can be found and revived, including ones from outside Sinnoh.
  • The Underground: the radar's stars work with the mouse, keys and a controller, Fire and Leaf traps no longer trap you forever, and you no longer keep walking after letting go.
  • Pressing in the right stick on a controller takes a picture, like F12.
  • Known exploits are closed: turning your PC's clock back for daily events, timing your start for shinies, the Cute Charm trick and copying Underground goods. Sorry. Not sorry.
  • More of the game is translated in all 20 languages.

Challenge runs

  • Shiny Pokémon can always be caught, even outside your Monolocke type or Pokémon Pool.
  • Losing to your rival on Route 201 no longer ends your Nuzlocke.
  • With "No lives", hearts no longer count down.
  • If your world got stuck at Roark's level cap, it fixes itself when it loads.
  • No Grind has been reworked: your team keeps up with the strongest Pokémon on each route instead of jumping straight to the next Gym's level, all the way to Cynthia. Click a Pokémon's icon to lock its level.
  • Lose your first fight on a challenge run and the game offers a quick restart.
  • The starter you pick is the one you get, and a Monolocke keeps its type. Shiny starters stay shiny after you pick them.
  • Professor Rowan no longer tells you your Eevee or Cyndaquil "has already evolved".
  • Randomizer: each route now rolls its own Pokémon, so not every Starly becomes the same thing. You can also pick ONE FOR ONE or FULLY RANDOM.

World & Visuals

  • Better performance around large bodies of water, especially north of Jubilife.
  • Widescreen now covers the edges of every map, along with cutscenes and the TV. People in story scenes walk on from off screen instead of popping into existence (looking at you, Rowan).
  • The old DS boxes no longer flash on screen (item boxes, fades, the shop's SELL menu, the Union Room menu).
  • Your trainer never flashes into Lucas, Dawn or black-and-white bars anymore.
  • Trainers stay the same size in every direction. Nobody grows a fifth taller just by turning around.
  • Hearthome Gym's fog clears where the torches shine, and Wayward Cave's ring of light works with Flash.
  • Following Pokémon walk one tile behind you, face the way they're walking and catch up after running or cycling. Buizel no longer walks around as Pachirisu.
  • Your trainer and Pokémon are drawn in front of signs they stand in front of.
  • Mom and your trainer no longer walk through each other after the first rival battle.
  • Every trainer has a proper fishing pose, and the rod's sound plays to the end.
  • Eggs get a proper summary page.
